    I was excited when I bought the 48 colors set for practically half the price. I don't know if Amazon intended to do that to get rid of these defective batches. I bought one set because I thought it was at a decent price and I was starting to learn how to use watercolors. As a beginner and from all the reviews and videos I watched, I looked forward to when it was delivered to me. Sadly, the first watercolor I received was damaged and broken. It had weird bumps on the paints, which I thought were air bubbles. It was not. Air bubbles are not that solid. Then I noticed that one of the paint popped right off. One paint was particularly dirtier than others. It looked new but it also looked like a part of a defective batch. Thanks to Amazon's customer service people, I had this damaged set refunded (the only reason why I gave it 3 stars). They understood and notified higher-ups to do some inventory checks, in hopes that this does not happen to other people.After the refund, I decided to get another one. I was hoping that this time I get a better one without any damages or non-major damages. The box was ripped and there were some minor scratches on the case. That was okay; however, after opening it, it was worse than the last one. There were some fingerprints on the paint. Some paint is still less than the others. And there was glue on top of some paints. One has a lot of it on it. I was really sad at this point, but the helpful associates helped me resolve my issues with the paint.I'm not impressed at Sakura for sending defective items to Amazon. I've never had any problems ordering through Amazon before, but this was not great. Which the associates made up more than enough for. 1 star for Sakura and 5 for customer service.EDIT: The paint is pretty chalky when you don't mix it. So, you get bits and pieces of paint. I don't know if its supposed to do this.EDIT 2: I contacted Sakura and they said these are old products that were released in 2017 with 1mm deeper wells. That's why it looks like there's half missing. If anything you're getting more product with these than the defaulted not 1mm deeper wells.

    This 48-color Sakura Koi watercolor set is incredible. I have a WInsor-Newton set and a Van Gogh set, and the Sakura Koi colors are more saturated, and they seem to become wet and usable more quickly. The colors are beautiful, and I love the handy palette that you can attach to swing out to the side or swing inward to be closed inside the case. It's a manageable size for painting when you are out and about. I wondered how well the water brush would work, and I was very pleasantly surprised. It's excellent! I thought I would need my usual set of different shaped brushes, but this brush is adaptable and can do some of the same things other brushes can do. I'm thrilled with this set, and I highly recommend it for anyone with a budding artist in the family or just for those who want to have fun with watercolors but want good quality paints. These paints make the time you spend on a painting worthwhile, because you end up with a beautiful result, and the thoughtful design of the case with its swing palette makes it convenient to use. I considered several different palettes; I'm really glad I chose this one.

So I do my background washes with white nights watercolor and then fill in the details with these , plus a touch of metallic from my gambi paints. It works out well and these paints will last a long time. After which I plan on using the palette to hold my tube watercolors. Love this! I am also contemplating trying out plein air sketching with these. They are just so tempting .. they are begging me to take them outside!

    Can’t understand why anyone gave this a bad review. I’m just getting back into water colour painting and this is excellent quality for a traveling paint set. Rich colours and enough assortment to play on the go. The compact container holds at least 6 140 lb pieces of paper in the top cover section and the water brush is of good quality. I used it right away to see how well the colours work on paper and they work great. Excited to take it on my travels this summer. Oh and it arrived early if that’s important to anyone. 🤷‍♀️
